Mini CNC plotter machine with 3D printed frame

Step 1: Video

Hello friends

I have made a micro size CNC plotter machine out of old scrap DVD drive stepper mechanism

The best part of this machine is i 3D print its frame to give it very compact look, all the 3D parts i have printed on tevo tarantula 3d Printer @ 0.15 layer hight, 60% infill PLA

T controller this CNC machine we need a microcontroller board called arduino Nano and we need motor driver IC for each stepper motor that is L293D IC all the electronics components are solder on a costume made PCB

I prepared a PCB layout and order it from JLCPCB.COM as soon as you get PCB you just need to solder header pins,PCB terminals & CNC is ready to load code to run. JCLPCB is PCB manufacturing company they provide upto 10 prototype PCB in just 2$ with first shipping free it was a great deal. Step 2: Material Required

Following are the list of major material you need for this project

2 nos Scrap DVD drive

Arduino nano :-

L293D IC :-

PCB Terminal :-

Header pin :-

Servo motor : –

5V adapter :-

Prototype PCB

apart from this you need some hardware like nut bolts some acrylic sheet and double side 3M tape

Step 3: 3D Printed Parts

Mainly there is four 3D printed parst

Two are the stepper motor platform (one for each axis)

Two are the X-axis clamp to hold the X-axis above from the Y-axis

printer settings are : – 0.15 layer hight, 60% infill PLA


Step 4: Mechanical Assembly

Assemble the machine as shone in video

Step 5: Eelctrical Circuit & Code

The PCB is manufactered as per the cuircuit diagram

The editable fritzing file & Gerber file is also attached along with all data…

now you have to download Zip file from the link given above and unzip it

load the cnc.ino code to arduino

an dopen processing software Run the GCTRL code to processing

as new window pop up press “p” to select the com port then press “g” to load gcode hit enter

and plotter start plotting

  1. Hi, I am trying to build a CNC plotter from this, but when I click the link to the 3d printed parts, thingiverse gives me a 404 page not found error. Is there any other way I can access the files?

  2. Hey man, you rock! Thank you so much for taking the effort to publish your work! Among all docummentation I’ve found yours was the most straight-forward yet informative enough to be useful… I’ll hit you with a question, perhaps an irrelevant one but I’m stumbling upon an issue here.. I don’t know how to wire the motors properly! I mean I’ve identified the correct pairs to the coils but is there a polarity to them? Your answer would help me so much at debugging! Thanks in advance for taking your time 🙂
